| Lithuania Late Three-Point Barrage Sinks Czechs |
|
04 September 2007 |
| Turning Point: The Czech Republic had just trimmed a 25-point deficit back down to 12 before Ksistof Lavrinovic and Linas Kleiza both drained fourth quarter three-pointers as Lithuania remained ahead 87-72. And two more long bombs by Simas Jasaitis in the final 2:25 sealed the deal with Lithuania coasting to a 95-75 victory to improve to 2-0 in Group C in Palma de Mallorca. |
|
Hero: In such a team showing like
this one, it's hard to pick out any one player. But Sarunas
Jasikevicius shrugged off a strained tendon in his right knee and
had 10 points, two rebounds and two assists in the first quarter to
throw down the gaunlet for his team-mates.
|
|
Stats: Four Lithuanians
scored in double figures - led by 22 from Ksistof Lavrinovic - while the
Czech Republic's stars Jiri Welsch and Lubos Barton were held to just
six first-half points on 1-of-7 shooting. |

| Late Rally Sees Germany Overcome Czechs |
|
03 September 2007 |
| Turning Point: With the Czech Republic in control of the game, Dirk Nowitzki buried a three-pointer to spark a 10-1 run and help his team recover from an eight-point deficit and edge ahead 46-44 in the final quarter. The Germans only trailed early in the overtime session after that surge as Nowitzki and Mithat Demirel combined for 25 points in the final 15 minutes. |
| Hero: Nowitzki. How much more do you have to say than 35 points, 11 rebounds, one steal and two blocked shots? Looking for an underdog hero? Third-string point guard Demirel scored 13 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, including two free-throws with 28 seconds to play and drawing a charge against Jakub Houska with 18 seconds to play. |
|
Stats: Germany's offense never found
any rhythm but overcame the fact that they handed out just seven
assists in out-rebounding the Czechs 44-33. Demirel was 11 of 15
from the charity stripe.
